I have recently finished my shadowing process with Dr. Mohammed. I Am waiting on the form for him to evaluate my shadowing. Completing the shadowing has offered me a new prospective of how the world of a chiropractor is lived. The way that they have to deal with patients on a daily basis and keep an ongoing good mood to ease the possible tension that a patient may be experiencing from visiting the office. The way Dr. Mohammed was able to destress patients with not only his chiropractic techniques but also through his knowledge and communication skills. I learned that it takes a lot more to be a chiropractor her than just knowledge it takes the soft skills developed throughout a life time paired with an incredible knowledge of how the body works in the attempt of giving the clients the best experience possible. Doctors of any kind are required to complete a continuing education requirement each year to maintain a license to practice. Through this Dr. Mohammed and his coleuges are having the opportunity its to travel down to the coast of Calefornia where they will be completing a seminar. Through my last session with Dr. Mohammed I made sure to attempt to harden my soft skills through the communication with not only Dr. Mohammed but as well with the patients. I continued to ask questions on the details of the profession and the commitments he has made to get him where he is today. By the end of this week I anticipate for my Capstone project to be completed in full with the only thing that may be remaning to ask Dr. Mohammed to complete the evaluation form. Some things that are missing from my project as of now is a large portion of the research. though I have much of the information needed to complete my presentation through the source of Dr. Mohammed I would like to double check all of the information given through my own research. Bellow is a picture of Catalyst Kinetics the place where I shadowed Dr. Mohammed as well as a picture of the office I was in.
Tomorrow I will be going into catalyst kinetics to start my first round of job shadowing. The hours that I will be there is from 9am- 2pm working along side with Dr. Zain Mohammad who is the person that is working at the hours that best fits my schedule. Today I will be writing a list of questions that I will be asking Dr. Zain in any free time I have during the day tomorrow. I am a bit nervous about what will happen tomorrow. As these are people that I have never met. I am wondering how the day will go; if I will be assigned simple tasks that will give me an idea of what its truly like or if I will be observing as he is adhering to clients. I do want to watch him tend to clients as that will be a majority of what will be happening if I go into the field. I am planning on wearing a dress shirt with dress pants in the attempt to look as professional as possible. By the end of Saturday i hope to have a deeper understanding of what will happen if I do choose to go into the field. I am starting my timeline. This will include all the days that I plant to shadow as well as the days that I need the presentation started as well as done. This will help me keep myself on track making sure that I do not stress a whole lot the day before it is due. This week I have also emailed to double check the days that I will shadowing at catalyst and today I will be emailing the Giants to find the days that they want me to come.
In the past couple of days, I have been in contact with both of my mentors. Dr. Sigalet and I have agreed that it would be easiest for me to come in on a Saturday in the coming future as it will allow me to not have to miss any school. I am going to also ask him if it would be possible of meeting him and shadowing him for an afternoon as he is one of the founding partners of Catalyst which would be my dream to open my own business allowing me the freedom to be my own boss. I emailed him today asking if it would be possible to find a Wednesday that I could come shadow him allowing me to see what it takes to run a successful clinic. It will be difficult to get out there so that I can have a long time to shadow him but I have been told I am allowed to leave durring a career class allowing me to get there in time. I have also contacted Dale Saip from the Giants in the search of determining which game days work best for me to shadow the athletic trainer Mike Burnstein and they said they would communicate with him a get back to me on Monday. I am hopping to get 2 game days so that it will give me a true feeling of what it is like to work with a team and create a connection with the players. I have not connected directly with Mike but I have been connected with someone called Emily O'Neil that is contacting Mike for me.
I have just emailed Dr. Sigalet to determine which days in January work best for us. From here we will determine which days I will be able to shadow him to better understand the world of being a chiropractor and running a clinic. The world junior hockey championships are currently on going which means that my second person which I am going to shadow is still working with the team Canada team. I will email the giants organization once the team is back from Europe. I have started to develop my method of presentation, and will be putting in some serious work on it in the coming weeks.
I have been given the opportunity to shadow Dr. Sigalet of catalyst kinetics for two days in January. This is a once in a life time opportunity. At first my email was disregarded but thanks to Ms. Lacriox I am able to job shadow Dr. Sigalet for 2 days in January. I have also connected with a representative from the Vancouver Giants to see if I would be able to job shadow their trainer to see what life would be like in a different job with similar degree. By the end of next week I want to be able to know the exact dates in January that I will be shadowing Dr. Sigalet. Now that I have mentors I can begin my power point presentation.
Trying to find a mentor Sending emails last week I learned that I would not be able to job shadow at Langley Sport Clinic. At this clinic they do not do have kinesiologists, this means that I will have to find a new primary place to job shadow. By the end of the week I would like to have a mentor commit to helping me learn more about what my future job will entail. I will email the Langley Township in hopes that they will let me shadow them for a couple of days to learn more about how to get to their position as well as succeed in post-secondary. One of the obstacles that may come when trying to find a mentor is confidentiality of patients. This can be solved by signing a confidentiality agreement. If I am unable to find a kinesiologist that is willing to mentor me and allow me to job shadow, I will attempt to contact phyisotherapist in the hopes that they will let me shadow them.
